Today I am sharing a recent haul that I made to Colour Pop Cosmetics for those of you that don’t know this line, its a cruelty free cosmetics line born in the City of Angeles better known as Los Angeles who have a pretty extensive audience via Instagram. For popular brands like Make Up Forever, Stila and Tarte Cosmetics Colour Pop has one thing in common. Liquid lipsticks, their liquid Lipsticks come in 2 finishes Ultra Matte and Ultra Satin, I’ll be sharing a few of the Colour Pop Ultra Matte, Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks that I picked up and my thoughts on them. I purchased 10 liquid lipsticks and 2 creme gel liners in total. Ill start off by saying that this is my second order with colour pop and it was much faster in terms of shipping than it was before. It took about 7 days for me to receive my package.
When I opened my package I was a little bit confused because every box was open, later after doing a little bit of research and watching a few You Tube videos I realized that this was common thing. Anyway the packaging is simple and sturdy for the most part, I was a little scared because I had read that the liquid sometimes seeps out the top with its closed but luckily I didn’t experience that at all. I fell completely in love with the colours that I had chosen. I will say if you are indecisive with choosing things, picking shades of your choice won’t be any different. I wanted them all. The vibrancy of the shades are absolutely stunning. One of my favourite shades that I loved from the Ultra Matte line was in the colour Highball which you can see below is a gorgeous shade.
The application was a little bit of trial and error for me, some shades applied beautifully and some didn’t. The ones that didn’t do so well, once they dried they began to crumble on my lips as well as crack. I don’t suffer from chapped lips, I prep my lips before each lip colour application and I use a primer especially with liquid lipsticks because they show every flaw on lips. I tried a few different techniques, talked to a few of my other beauty junkie bloggers and they all advised applying with a lip brush, thin coats and a primer should eliminate the crumbling mess I was dealing with.
After trying those techniques they application and finish was a little better, but I did notice the brighter the shades that’s when I would have the issues the most. I assume its from one of the ingredients, although I haven’t checked which one that alter the way it sits on my lips. The Ultra Satins apply much better and I didn’t experience any crumbling but the longevity of the wear isn’t as long. I was able to get 9-10 hours without reapplying from the Ultra Matte and about 6-7 hours from the Ultra Satin. For $6 each I am honestly not disappointed with the Liquid lipsticks at all. For the most part they are really easy to wear and they apply good. You just have to know how and be prepared to play around with them a bit to find what works for you.
I also picked up the Creme Gel liners, to be honest I am still on the fence with them. I have only worn one in the shade Punch and good Lord was it ever hard to use! I mean I am a Makeup Artist by trade and applying this made me feel like a total Idiot! it literally feels like paint once its dried and the whole application was too much of a headache! its crumbled, didn’t apply evenly a few hours after wearing it started to fall into my eyes. Overall the liner would be better if they were creamier, came with a silicone liner brush and didn’t dry to a matte paint finish.
I am sure some of you are wondering… Would I purchase them again? My answer is YES! for 2 reasons the price, and the fact that after playing with them and becoming more comfortable I know how to make them work. It just takes a little bit of time!
