How To Decorate A Holiday Mantle with Old and New Items

24 days until Christmas can you actually believe it?!?!? I can remember this time last year thinking about all the decor I wanted to do. Now here we are fast forward to 2016 and I am sometimes still inspired and indecisive to either change some things or add other items. The one spot in my home I am the most indecisive with is the Mantle above the Fireplace. It gets the most attention when decorating because its the focal point in the family room. Yet I can never seem to be quite as satisfied as I would like to be with how it looks. How To Decorate A Holiday Mantle with Old and New Items

Inspiration

This year my inspiration came from a more neutral palette, which is new for me. My vision for decor this year was a clean white look with a hint of sparkle… Okay okay A LOT! of sparkle. I love glitter! who doesn’t. Anyway this year I also took a great liking for antlers, so I decided to incorporate that into my Christmas decor as well. Another factor that played in the mantle decor was budget. I wanted to expand my DIY skills in order to stay on a strict budget so that meant I had to refresh items of decor I already owned. What made this Mantle even more special is the fact that  Wayfair  asked me to showcase my holiday Mantle decor which I am elated to share with you all. How To Decorate A Holiday Mantle with Old and New Items For my Mantle I did a small refresh of the Garland that I used last year by simply spray painting it with Gold, I had some left over pine cones from my Fall Mantle that I decided to add to tone down the sparkle. I didn’t want to spend too much on this project so buying things in bulk was a handy tip to take in when deciding on what you want your mantle to look like. Since I had changed my theme for this year and had to purchase a few new stockings to add. Thank fully Wayfair had a great deal where I purchased  2 Stockings for $18.99. I decided to customize the stockings by adding monogram letters for each member of my family.

I have always had a love for snow globes ever since I was a little girl so I knew that I wanted to add one to my mantle for this years theme. I found the most perfect snow globe which has two reindeer inside with snow covered trees. As I was saying before my love for reindeer and antlers and sparkle all combined into one. I also found a deer that had enough bling and sparkle while shopping at Winners it had to come home with me.

I realized while decorating my mantle that there is no real direction in terms of where things should be placed. However there should be equal heaviness on each side. What I mean by that is, the size of the pieces you put up should sort of align with each other. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do on both sides. What I did know is that I didn’t want to put trees on both sides of my mantle because I felt like it would look too boring. So I found this cute little Penguin in all white with a sweater on and then I decided to take one of my Vases’ and throw some of the extra ornaments from the tree that I wasn’t going to use.

Even though my cushions and these giant pine cones were not a part of my Mantle they still played a big part in the decor for my fireplace on a whole. Well there you have it, I didn’t do much when it comes to decorating. I added what I liked, there was no particular method to it and I had fun. Which I think is very important. If there are any tips that I could lend when decorating my a mantle they would be

  • Find items both old and new
  • Decide on a colour scheme
  • Have a budget
  • Have fun!
