Now Streaming A Must See, I Am Jane Doe

I have watched a lot of Netflix documentaries over the last month, one documentary, in particular, I can not seem to get off my mind. Now Streaming A Must See, I Am Jane Doe is a documentary which follows real cases of young American girls enslaved in the sex trade through popular online ads. When the title of the documentary first caught my eye I was a little weary about watching it. But now that I have watched it and have seen first hand what our young innocent girls can fall victim to, I felt compelled to share this documentary with you.

I Am Jane Doe narrates the current fight that Canadian and American Mothers are going through today with young adolescent and teenage girls. More specifically American mothers who are presently trying to put an end to sex trafficking through online ads on backpage.com where for a number of years was also a part of Villiage Voice an American news and culture paper founded in 1955  known for its classified section for adult sexual services that secretly exploit underage girls.

The characters featured in the I am Jane Doe documentary were ages 13 and 15 years old at the time and follows their journey before during and after being trafficked. It also shows the journey of their mothers and the gut-wrenching court process to not only shut down the backpages.com website but to also put a stop to  Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, an internet freedom law that provides a safe haven for website publishers to advertise underage girls for sex.

This was definitely an eye opener for me especially because I have two girls of my own. It also made me aware of many want ads that I see daily that are actually ads for sex trafficking which I think it completely horrible to see that it’s so publicly broadcasted. This is documentary brought on a lot of emotions for me as it will for you.

Have you seen this documentary? What are your thoughts, let me know in the comments below.

I watch Netflix quite frequently but had not heard of I Am Jane Doe yet. I am still catching up on Orange Is the New Black and Pretty Little Liars.

This sounds very intriguing. My wife and I have stood against this industry for awhile now. I am going to check it out. Thank you.

Wow, I never knew that there was sex trafficking going on in the U.S. That’s terrible. I’m glad there are organizations that are helping put an end to this horrible activity.
