Must Have Highlighters & Illuminators For Women Of Colour
Just when I thought Summer was coming to an end it has decided that it finally wants to arrive. Ummm hello, Mother Nature where was Summer again for the months of July and August????? Anyway, while I was doing my end of summer makeup purge a light bulb went off. I should make a list of must have highlighters & illuminators for women of colour. These happen to be some of my absolute favourites that I wear and reach for on a daily basis.
Highlighting is one of those steps that I feel is totally essential when applying a full face of makeup or even for a no makeup, makeup look. Just like lashes complete an eye makeup look. It adds dimension to the face by way of application and points of light. There are different formulas of highlighters and illuminators for example liquids, cream, and powders. There are also different finishes such as shimmer, matte and satin. It really boils down to preference and expertise which one you choose.
For me, I wear both liquid and powder illuminators and highlighters. Generally, in the fall and winter months, I use liquid illuminators which I mix in with my liquid foundations since I prefer to wear lighter makeup during the hotter months. Powders I wear all year round because…. well they’re powder, I love layering a power highlighter over a liquid illuminator for more glow to my skin. It’s very important to know how to highlight according to your face shape and the features you want to draw more attention to (see diagram below to determine face shape).
Selecting the right highlighting and illuminating products can be so daunting at times. I have been in the beauty industry for many years and I find that up until recently there were never products that suited skin tones darker than mine that didn’t look ashy or too shimmery. Finding the perfect highlighter or illuminator has become a little easier because brands are finally starting to target a different audience. Enough babbling from me here below is a list of must highlighters & illuminators for women of colour. I would love to know if you’ve tried any of these products and what your thoughts were. Let me know in the comments.
